ARCOS DE SAN JUAN Arches of San Juan
These arches were built around the year 1690 under the government of General Juan José de la Barcena as part of a posible fortification project for the city, which was never concluded.
The three Colonial arches remain today, with the largest and most beautiful the Arch of San Juan.
CASA DE MONTEJO Montejo House
Francisco de Montejo y Leon, “The younger”, acting on the orders of this father, built what was to be the home of the Conquistadors, a building famous for the Plateresque style of its facade which it conserves today. A technical study of the porch reveals that the ground floor was built by European labor, with the more recent upper store of native construcction.
And so “The Younger” founded Merida on January 6, 1542, over the ruins of the city of T´ho.
